Srila Prabhupada only gave permission to chant a minimum of 16 rounds because his disciples were not ready to chant 64 rounds a day. By combining Harinama, Deity worship, scriptural studies, and preaching, it was sufficient to fulfill Srila Prabhupada’s desire to distribute his books all over the world. However, now that the current Naam Acharya is Srila Dharmavira Prabhu, his instruction is to focus on Shuddha Naam to attain the final goal. This can be seen as the next stepping stone for the qualified Bhakta to attain the paramahamsa stage and Krishna prema in this very lifetime.
It is up to each individual to make spiritual progress. Our Srila Gurudev gives blessings and empowerment to chant 64 rounds. This means that you will become more enthusiastic, and a deep cleansing will happen due to his mercy. However, that is only 50% of krpa. It is the responsibility of the sadhaka to put 50% of effort into their own purification and to follow the guru’s instructions.
If you experience a deep desire to chant the Maha Mantra and follow dharma in this age of Kali Yuga and understand that chanting is the only means for complete self-realization, then that is something for you. If you feel an innate pull towards Krishna prema and are willing to sacrifice your entire life to pursue that, then this path may be for you. Not all are qualified to approach a guru for paramahamsa training, and this should be taken seriously.
Our observance is in accordance with Vedic injunctions. Ritvik philosophy is outside the guru parampara. Even now, no ritvik can provide an answer to this simple question: Where does Srila Prabhupada state, in his original books or any authorized Vaishnava literature, that ritvik can take the place of the guru parampara? When and where was it actually implemented by other acharyas in Vedic times or by previous acharyas? Srila Prabhupada never directed anyone to read his personal letters about ISKCON’s governance. His followers were advised to read his books as they contain all Vedanta and Siddhanta. It’s unimaginable for Srila Prabhupada, titled “Bhaktivedanta”, to disregard Vedic injunctions and Vedanta to introduce a new parampara. The letters weren’t meant for making conclusions. Instructions were given by Srila Prabhupada to certain disciples whom he deemed unqualified to serve as spiritual masters. You can gain a deeper understanding of what a spiritual master is by reading Srila Prabhupada’s books.
Training and empowerment will not be given to initiated members of ISKCON
